💡 First Principle: ITIL and PRINCE2 are complementary because projects (PRINCE2's domain) are how significant changes to products and services get delivered, while ITIL manages the ongoing products and services those projects create and change — projects build, ITIL runs and improves.
Why care: significant product and service changes are often delivered as projects, and project management done badly derails service management. Understanding the handshake between the two keeps change controlled. The mental model: PRINCE2 governs the temporary endeavour that delivers a change; ITIL governs the ongoing life of what's delivered.
⚠️ Common Misconception: That project management is irrelevant to service management. Significant changes and transformations are typically delivered through projects, so project management is integral to managing products and services well.
