4.2.1. Discover and Design
💡 First Principle: Discover is about understanding what's needed and possible; design is about shaping how to meet it — together they're the "figure out the right thing before building it" pair.
The purpose of discover is to understand demand, opportunities, market conditions, and consumer needs — exploring what might be worth doing and why. The purpose of design is to plan and shape products and services (and their components) so they will meet identified needs, accounting for all four dimensions before resources are committed to building.
⚠️ Exam Trap: Discover is broader than "gathering requirements" — it includes exploring market and opportunity. Design is about planning the solution, not building it.
Reflection Question: Why is skipping or rushing "discover" a common cause of building the wrong thing well?
