1.1. The Network Abstraction: Why Networks Exist

💡 First Principle: A network exists to move data from one place to another reliably and efficiently. Every protocol, device, and technology solves one of three problems: addressing (who), delivery (how), or reliability (did it work).

Imagine sending a letter. You need the recipient's address (addressing), a postal service to carry it (delivery), and some way to know it arrived (reliability). Networks solve these same problems digitally, and understanding this framework lets you categorize any networking technology instantly.

What breaks without this understanding: You memorize isolated facts instead of building reasoning tools. When the exam presents an unfamiliar scenario, you guess rather than deduce. Worse, you can't troubleshoot real-world problems because you don't know which layer to investigate.
