8.1. Exam Strategy and Time Management
The exam: 75 scored questions, 90 minutes. That's 72 seconds per question — more than enough time if you don't overthink.
The strategy:
- Read the question stem carefully before looking at the answer choices. Identify exactly what's being asked. Safety question? Scope question? Technique question?
- Apply the public safety filter. When uncertain, the right answer is the one that most clearly protects the client.
- Eliminate obviously wrong answers first. Usually two options are clearly wrong; then choose between the remaining two.
- Flag and return. If you're stuck, flag the question and move on. Come back with fresh eyes.
- Don't change answers without a specific reason. First instinct is often correct. Change an answer only if you identify a specific error in your original reasoning.
