6.2. Waxing Methods and Procedures

💡 First Principle: Waxing removes hair by adhering to the hair shaft and pulling it out from the follicle when the wax is removed. The mechanical force of removal — when executed correctly — removes the hair with its root, producing longer-lasting results than surface methods. Done incorrectly, waxing lifts skin, spreads infection, or causes burns.

Waxing is the most commonly tested hair removal method on the exam, with the heaviest emphasis on infection control and contraindications.

⚠️ Common Misconception: Double-dipping (re-inserting a used applicator stick into the wax pot) is acceptable if the client's skin is clean. Double-dipping contaminates the entire wax pot with bacteria from the client's skin — regardless of how clean the skin appears.
