6.3. Additional Hair Removal Methods
💡 First Principle: Each hair removal method works through a different mechanism — mechanical removal, chemical dissolution, or targeted destruction of the follicle. The right method for a client depends on the area, hair characteristics, pain tolerance, and desired duration of results.
Using the wrong method — or one that requires a license you don't hold — causes client harm and puts your license at risk. The exam primarily tests that you can distinguish between methods and know the scope-of-practice boundaries around permanent removal techniques.
⚠️ Common Misconception: Laser hair removal is the same as electrolysis, and both are permanent. Laser and IPL produce "permanent hair reduction" — fewer, finer hairs over multiple sessions — but only electrolysis is FDA-recognized as permanently removing hair. The distinction matters on the exam.
