2.1 The Service Value System (SVS) – The Big Picture

Phase 2: Foundation – The ITIL 4 Framework in Theory and Action

The SVS describes how all components and activities work together to enable value creation. Its purpose is to ensure the organization continually co-creates value with stakeholders in line with objectives. Understanding the SVS provides the essential context for how all the pieces of ITIL fit together to achieve a common goal: value.

  • Inputs: Opportunity and Demand.
    • In practice, Opportunity can come from market changes, new technologies, or feedback. Demand is the need or desire for services. Recognizing and effectively managing both inputs is the starting point for value creation.
  • Output: Value.
    • The ultimate goal is to co-create value with stakeholders.
