5. Modern Analytics & Visualization (25-30%)

This phase covers the analytics lifecycle end to end — ingestion, storage, processing, and reporting in Power BI — plus Microsoft Fabric.

Why this matters: joint-largest domain at 25–30%, and the one with the most services to keep straight. It is also where candidates lose marks to plausible-but-wrong answers, because several of these services genuinely overlap and the exam picks the one the requirement names.

💡 The mental model: it is the Phase 1 lifecycle with product names attached — Ingest → Store → Process → Serve. Data Factory and Event Hubs ingest; Data Lake and the databases store; Synapse, Databricks and Stream Analytics process; Power BI serves. Answer "which stage?" before "which service?" and most questions collapse to two candidates.

⚠️ The trap: the big services deliberately span stages — Synapse stores and processes, Fabric does all four — so the fact that a service could do the job does not make it the answer. Identify the stage the question is asking about, then apply the second axis: real-time or scheduled? That single distinction separates Event Hubs and Stream Analytics from Data Factory, and it is the most frequently tested discrimination in this domain.
