8.1. Using Copilot in Microsoft Teams Meetings

💡 First Principle: Copilot in Teams meetings doesn't just record what was said: it understands it. That makes possible things that plain transcription never could: answering questions about the meeting in real time, identifying action items from the discussion, and synthesizing decisions from hours of talk. Each phase of a meeting (before, during, after) has its own Copilot capability, so match the capability to the moment.

Why this matters: the cost of a meeting isn't only the hour in the room. It's the prep nobody did, the late joiner who derails the discussion asking what they missed, and the action items that evaporate afterwards. Copilot targets each of those costs separately, and the exam tests whether you can tell the tools apart.

⚠️ Common Misconception: "The meeting recap is just the transcript." A transcript is a verbatim record of who said what. An Intelligent recap is AI-generated: notes and tasks, chapters and topics, speaker timeline and markers. Use the transcript when you need the exact words, and the recap when you need the outcome. A related trap is assuming every meeting gets a recap: Intelligent recap needs the meeting to have been recorded or transcribed and to have lasted at least five minutes.
