6.3.2.6. Lab 6: Remote Access Configuration (30 minutes)

Objective: Configure and test remote access methods.

Setup: Two computers on the same network (or one computer and a phone with RD client app)

Steps:

1. Enable Remote Desktop

   • Open Settings > System > Remote Desktop
   • Enable Remote Desktop (note the security warning)
   • Note the PC name for connection
   • Check Advanced settings - note Network Level Authentication setting

2. Test RDP Connection (if you have a second device)

   • From another computer, open Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc)
   • Enter the PC name or IP address
   • Connect and authenticate with valid credentials

3. Review RDP Security

   • In Windows Defender Firewall, find the Remote Desktop rule
   • Note which port it uses (TCP 3389)
   • Consider: Why might an organization change this default port?
