This guide teaches from first principles—the foundational truths that everything else builds upon. Rather than memorizing isolated facts, you'll understand why things work the way they do. When you grasp the underlying principles, you can reason through unfamiliar problems instead of being stuck when a scenario doesn't match something you memorized.
Think of it this way: memorizing "use ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew to fix DHCP issues" helps you solve one problem. Understanding why that works—that DHCP leases expire, that the client must request a new address from the server, that release clears the old binding—lets you troubleshoot dozens of related issues.
This phase covers two foundations: what the exam actually tests (Section 1.1) and the systematic methodology for solving any technical problem (Section 1.2).
