4.4.3. Private Link Integration
Front Door Premium can connect to origins via Private Link, eliminating public exposure:
Supported origins:
- App Service
- Azure Storage
- Internal Load Balancer
- Any Private Link service
Why this matters: without it, an origin behind Front Door still holds a public endpoint, and anyone who discovers that address can bypass the edge entirely — skipping the WAF, the caching and the rate limits. Private Link origins close that door: the origin has public network access disabled, and Front Door reaches it over a private endpoint instead.
The step candidates forget is approval. Creating the origin raises a private endpoint connection request that sits in Pending until an owner of the origin resource approves it. Until then, Front Door cannot reach the backend and the route returns errors — which looks like a misconfiguration but is simply an unanswered request.
⚠️ Exam Trap: This requires the Premium tier of Front Door. If a scenario specifies Standard and asks for private origins, the tier is the thing that has to change first.
