4.1. Exam Preparation Strategies
This module provides practical advice for tackling the AWS DOP-C02 exam. We will break down the exam structure and question types, offer strategies for effective time management, and provide a systematic approach to dissecting scenario-based questions.
Think of the exam like a time-boxed engineering challenge — you have 180 minutes for 75 questions, which sounds comfortable until you hit a scenario question with a 200-word stem and four plausible answers. Without a strategy, you'll spend 5 minutes on questions worth the same as ones you could answer in 30 seconds. What happens when you run out of time with 10 unanswered questions? You lose points on questions you might have known.
Consider the difference between reading a question and analyzing it. Reading means processing words linearly. Analyzing means: identifying the constraint ("minimum cost"), eliminating obviously wrong answers, and then comparing the remaining options against the specific constraint. This systematic approach turns 4-option questions into 2-option questions — dramatically improving your odds even when you're uncertain.
The trade-off is speed versus accuracy. Spending more time per question increases accuracy but risks running out of time. The strategies in this section help you calibrate: flag uncertain questions for review, never leave blanks, and invest time proportionally to question complexity.
