Every scenario on the AB-620 exam — from picking a knowledge source to wiring up a multi-agent pipeline — rests on a handful of foundational ideas: what an agent actually is, how it stays truthful, how it talks to tools and other agents, and where Microsoft's products draw their boundaries. This phase builds those foundations deliberately, because the exam's candidate profile assumes them. If Phase 1 feels comfortable, everything in the heavier domains becomes a variation on a theme you already know.
