12.3. Final Exam Day Guidance

The day before:
  • Review the Quick Reference tables in Phase 10
  • Read through the Domain Confidence Checklist above — note any areas to quickly revisit
  • Prepare logistics: exam location, ID requirements, arrival time buffer
  • Rest — cognitive performance under test conditions requires genuine rest
During the exam:
  • Read each question stem twice before reading the answers
  • Identify key words: "FIRST," "BEST," "NEXT," "MOST important," "LEAST likely"
  • Apply the "think like a manager" filter when choosing between two plausible answers
  • Do not overthink: your first instinct, informed by deep understanding, is usually correct
  • Budget time: flag and skip questions that are taking more than 90 seconds; return if time allows (CAT does not allow returning — commit and move)
When you don't know:
  • Eliminate clearly wrong answers first
  • Ask: which answer protects the organization most broadly?
  • Ask: which answer follows the correct process sequence?
  • Ask: which answer addresses root cause rather than symptom?

Trust your preparation. You have spent significant time building understanding at a level the exam is designed to test. The CISSP rewards thinkers who understand why security works, not memorizers who recall isolated facts. You have built the former.
