HashiCorp Certification Exam Prep

HashiCorp, now part of IBM, certifies Terraform and Vault. At the foundational level there are Terraform Associate (004) and Vault Associate (003). Above them are hands-on, lab-based advanced exams for Terraform and Vault, and a new Terraform Infrastructure Engineer Professional exam launching in October 2026. The Consul Associate certification was retired in July 2026.

Terraform Associate is the natural starting point: it covers infrastructure-as-code concepts and the everyday Terraform workflow, and it has no formal prerequisites beyond basic terminal skills and an understanding of cloud architecture. HashiCorp strongly recommends it before the professional and advanced exams, though it is not required.

HashiCorp certifications are valid for two years. You keep Terraform Associate current by passing a higher Terraform exam, which extends it, or by retaking the current Associate exam from six months before it expires. Exams are taken online with a remote proctor through Certiverse, booked from HashiCorp's certification portal.
