About the HashiCorp Terraform Associate Certification
The HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate (exam code HCTA0-004) is the foundational certification for practitioners who use Terraform to manage infrastructure as code. It validates the skills an engineer needs in production: writing configuration in HCL, managing state, consuming and authoring modules, and running the core write-plan-apply workflow across any cloud or on-premises provider.
The exam uses multiple-choice and multiple-response questions, runs about 60 minutes, and is taken online with a proctor. HashiCorp recommends hands-on experience with Terraform's open-source workflow plus familiarity with HCP Terraform. The credential is valid for two years.
Career value: Terraform is the de facto standard for multi-cloud infrastructure as code, and the Associate is the credential most DevOps engineer, platform engineer, and cloud engineer postings list when Terraform is required. It pairs naturally with a cloud certification (AWS, Azure, or Google), since Terraform is how those resources are provisioned in practice.
