6.1. Exam Strategy

💡 First Principle: SC-900 rewards recognizing concepts described in unfamiliar wording over recalling memorized product names, so your strategy should optimize for reading each stem carefully and eliminating wrong answers systematically, rather than rushing to the option that "sounds right" at a glance.

Time management: With roughly 40-60 questions in about 60 minutes, you have on average a little over a minute per question — comfortable for a concepts exam, but not enough to agonize over every item. If a question isn't clicking within 60-90 seconds, flag it and move on.

Flag-and-return: Mark uncertain questions and continue — a later question sometimes jogs your memory on an earlier, related concept (for example, a later Defender XDR question might remind you of a detail relevant to an earlier Sentinel question). Never leave a question fully unanswered; an educated guess after eliminating obviously wrong options beats a blank.

Reading the stem carefully: Watch for qualifying words like "primarily," "first," or "NOT" — SC-900 stems are frequently testing a precise distinction (like authentication vs. authorization, or CSPM vs. workload protection) rather than a vague general idea. If two options both sound plausible, re-read the stem for the specific qualifier that picks between them.

Eliminate before you select: For multiple-choice questions, actively rule out options you know are wrong before deciding between what's left — this converts a 4-option guess into a 2-option guess even when you're not fully certain of the right answer.
