About AWS Certifications
Amazon Web Services offers a tiered certification ladder: Foundational (Cloud Practitioner, AI Practitioner), Associate (Solutions Architect, Developer, CloudOps Engineer, Data Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer), Professional (Solutions Architect Pro, DevOps Engineer Pro), and Specialty (Advanced Networking, Security, Machine Learning). Each track maps to a real role on AWS engineering teams.
AWS exams are scored on a scaled 100–1000 system with a passing score around 700–750 depending on the exam. Most associate-level exams run 130 minutes with 65 questions; professional and specialty exams extend to 180 minutes with 75 questions. Performance-based labs do not appear — all questions are multiple choice or multiple response.
The Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) is the recommended entry point for non-technical staff or anyone new to AWS. Engineers with AWS experience often skip directly to Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03), which has the highest market demand and best signal-to-effort ratio for landing a cloud engineering role.
