About CompTIA Certifications
CompTIA's certifications are vendor-neutral and widely recognized across IT operations, support, and security roles. The path runs from CompTIA A+ (entry-level technician) through Network+ and Security+ (associate-level), to CySA+, PenTest+, and SecurityX (formerly CASP+, exam code CAS-005) at the senior level. Many credentials hold ANSI accreditation under ISO/IEC 17024.
CompTIA exams use a mix of multiple choice and performance-based questions (drag-and-drop scenarios where you apply a concept). Most exams run 90 minutes with up to 90 questions and a passing score of 720–750 on the 100–900 scale.
Security+ (SY0-701) is the highest-demand CompTIA credential — it satisfies DoD 8570 IAT Level II requirements, is required for many federal IT contracts, and serves as a stepping stone toward more advanced security tracks. A+ (220-1101 + 220-1102) is the standard for help desk and field technician roles.
