First Principle: A well-constructed prompt provides clear instructions, sufficient context, and specific constraints, guiding the model to generate a relevant, accurate, and properly formatted output.

An effective prompt often contains several key components:

  • Instruction: A clear, direct command telling the model what to do.
    • Example: "Summarize the following text in three bullet points."
  • Context: Background information that the model needs to perform the instruction accurately. This is the data the model will work on.
    • Example: [Paste the long article here]
  • Input Data: The specific question or input that the instruction should be applied to.
  • Output Indicator: A word or phrase that tells the model where to begin its output, helping to structure the response.
    • Example: "Summary:" or "Answer:"
Advanced Constructs:
  • Persona / Role-playing: Instructing the model to act as a specific character or expert.
    • Example: "You are an expert copywriter. Write a product description for..."
  • Negative Prompts: Telling the model what it should not do.
    • Example: "Summarize the text. Do not use technical jargon."
  • Output Formatting: Specifying the desired output format, such as JSON, Markdown, or a numbered list.
